After serving the government with integrity for 40 years and retiring as a Tahsildar in 2019, Mr. S. Gnanavel continued his dedication to public service by establishing the Maraimalainagar e-Service Centre in 2021. With the noble intention of serving society even after retirement, he launched the Maraimalai Murasu Tamil Weekly in 2023 after obtaining all necessary government approvals. All expenses for printing, design, and distribution are fully funded through his pension and income from the e-Service centre, enabling the magazine to be provided entirely free of cost to the public. Every week, he personally distributes the magazine door-to-door from Urappakkam to Chengalpattu, a rare and remarkable service that he continues without fail. Over 4.5 lakh copies have been distributed free so far, and for this extraordinary service, the Thiruvalluvar Mandram has honored him with a Social Service Award and Certificate of Appreciation. More than 15,000 print copies are distributed every week, and over 10,000 digital readers access the magazine through WhatsApp groups. Although a single issue is priced at ₹5, an annual subscription of just ₹260 provides delivery throughout Tamil Nadu via postal service. The magazine is also regularly sent to important government offices including the Tamil Nadu Secretariat, District Collectorates, and Police Departments. Covering politics, government schemes, legal awareness, women’s features, sports, spirituality, and the Thirukkural, Maraimalai Murasu stands as a people’s newspaper dedicated to truth, awareness, and public welfare.
